The Story of Santa Fe's Warbonnet

Santa Fe relyed on native American artwork for advertisement very much. The warbonnet paint scheme is based on Indian's " Head Dresses".

1937.6.4. The first warbonnet locomotive E1A, E1B delivered by EMC. This paint scheme was used for passenger diesel locomotives and some RDCs in Santa Fe.

1971.5.2. Santa Fe passenger service ended.

1972 Santa Fe started to use yellow/blue warbonnet paint scheme. For a long time, you can not see red/silver warbonnet paint scheme in America.

1989.7. Santa Fe president restored warbonnet paint scheme to FP45 , and announced new power also ordered in this colors.

1995 Santa Fe & Burlington Northern merged together, but BNSF promised they will maintain the warbonnet paint scheme.

Today, you still can see Santa Fe's CHIEF wear this warbonnet travelling all the way, because we know:
The Chief is still the Chief !!!
